David T. Asuncion, also known as “Dee” Asuncion, is a 42-year-old portrait photographer and a native of Tarlac City. He was born on November 29,1975 in Bayanan, Muntinlupa and is happily married with four kids.
Dee took up AB Social Sciences, Major in History at Tarlac State University. What came next are his spontaneous work experiences where he once worked as an Information Officer for Governor Margarita Cojuangco, Mayor Harmes Sembrano, and Mayor Miguel Rivilla.
He also worked as a one-time Linux server administrator that dabbles on webpage design and development where his interest in photography started to grow. He began to take photography as a hobby to enhance photos for a website. Little did he know, Dee was already walking towards the path made for him which is to capture amazing people through his lenses.
Dee’s first camera was a borrowed Canon 350D. It was his boss named Anna Varona who took basic photography with him, inspired him, and pushed him to pursue portrait photography.
As a photographer, there are a lot of chances to experience different things and Dee shares with us his favorite: “There are a lot of memorable experiences” Dee states, “But it was the shoot at Cagbalete Island which I considered as one of the most memorable experience in my career. It was really hot, tiring, and we had to sleep inside a classroom because they didn’t exactly have any accommodations. Plus, we were told that there were ‘Mambabarangs’ in the place.”
Dee sees photography as more of his passion and kind of a hobby that’s why when we asked about what his favorite quote was, he said “When you look at my images, you are not just looking at my photography, you are looking at my passion.”
To all aspiring photographers who would want to pursue photography as a career or as their dream, Dee’s simple message is to be the inspiration.
